Sticker on Your Truck

© 2021 Jeff Jackson

Grief will drive you down

some curvy roads

Make you do some stupid stuff

It’ll bend your arms and legs

into some pretzel hold

Make you tap when

you’ve had enough

Grief will set you on a swing

and spin you ‘round

Make you lose all control

You’ll wanna stop and

plant your feet on the ground

And find a way to be consoled

But when I die, don’t tattoo

my name on your forearm

Remember me some other way

Don’t glue a sticker

on your truck in memory of me

Unless you want me to haunt you

We’re all graffiti painted

on the cars of trains

One moment here

then down the line

Our life and love may seem

like drops of rain

But that shouldn’t stop

us from tryin’

S’like trying to etch

a thought into a rock

Or trap a ghost in a Mason jar

We all just disappear

like laundry loses socks

Or just like drunks get lost in bars

I realize that may be

exactly what you want

So I won’t seem so far away

I know you’ll try desperately

to hang on to me

But please just let me float away

I already haunt you
