Prophet

© 2019 Jeff Jackson

Is that a little bit of judgment

I hear in your voice?

Can you only see the shadow

or do you have a choice?

You’re separating right from wrong

with perfect clarity

No one loves a prophet, ‘cept me.

You can’t predict the future,

but you see what’s happening

Warning I’ll get blisters

if I grab that burning ring

You stand outside and see the things

that I can never see

No one loves a prophet, ‘cept me

But you’re not alone

You’re not alone

You’re not alone, my dear

You see in panorama

Yet you’re pointing out details

Looking for some justice

Just to balance out the scales

The voice that no one wants to hear

Yet needs to desperately

No one loves a prophet, 'cept me.

Some were shot and

some were stabbed

Some were sawn in two

If you decide to speak the truth

The same might come of you So build your courage,

take your love

For every human life

You’re flanked by

Ghosts of ages past

Who bear that lonely light
