Porch
© 2016 Jeff Jackson

You can learn a lot sitting on the porch
Just pull up a chair by the old screen door
If you listen real close, set your senses free
Hear the murmur of life in a bumblebee

Cause your soul is trembling
And springtime’s resembling peace

Inhale the smell of clover
floating through the wind
Tune your left ear, baby,
with the slightest bend
Breathe the memories of your childhood
in the fresh cut grass
Now the mockingbird’s belting out
it’s latest jazz

Cause you’ll hear me calling
My voice in whispered drawling yeah

You look for a sign
But I’ve been right here all the time
Rhythm of the sparrows
Tells you all you need to know

C’mon, little darlin’ let me hold your hand
And I’ll be the one who will understand
Chin up, little baby, let me see those eyes
So big & gorgeous they could hypnotize

Cause your soul’s still trembling
But I want you ambling free

You can learn a lot sitting on the porch
Just lean a little closer
and I’ll tell you more
Hear the crackin’ and the squeakin’
of that old swing chain
Wash that lemonade down
with your latest pain
