I'm Feeling Old

Well the hairs in my ears
are a-sproutin’
While the hairs on my
head disappear
There’s a pain in my knee
that’s a-shoutin’
Ibuprofen helps it more
than the beer
There’s a keg where there
once was a six-pack
It hangs so I can’t see my feet
And the lines in my face
skew in thin cracks
Like jack-hammered
lengths of concrete
I’m feeling old
The color of my beard is a-grayin’
I’m looking more and more
like Santa Claus
Eating healthy’s like
a prisoner praying
Who’s been locked up
for breaking all the laws
Sound in my ear like neon buzzing
Gotta squint
to read the evening news
Seeing things I thought was
there but wasn’t
Pretend it’s real but still
that’s no excuse
There aren’t as many days ahead as the ones behind my back
I gotta swallow that pill on my own
I may be at a greater risk for
death by heart attack
But I’ll always love good bourbon
In my bones
I’ll always love fried chicken
In my bones
I’ll always love cheeseburgers
In my bones
I’ll always love glazed doughnuts
In my bones
This song first attempted
to be funny
But as I wrote,
It got a bit depressed
It ain’t gonna make a bit of money
But it might make
a bit of you stressed
It’s hard to love the person
in the mirror
When they’re not
the image in your mind
Rub your eyes to see a little clearer
Baptize yourself and
be a bit more kind
When you feel old
Lift your blindfold
You shine like gold
Stop feeling old
