Has it always been this damn hot?
Sweat pouring with the fan on or not
I’ve been tossing and turning a lot
Cause I don’t sleep so well
When it’s 4 degrees hotter than hell
But I don’t really mind it at all
When the switch flips from summer to fall
And the breeze trickles in from the yard
And it blows through the screens
When it’s 60 or 70 degrees
There is a song in the trees
And a dance through your memories
An old-timey tune on the leaves
And a smile that shows all your teeth
Listen to sweet melodies
In the 60s and 70s
In the 60s and 70s
Do you remember the days
When we’d park in those woods up the way
And watch the smoke float in the rays
And we’d listen to John and Paul
Singing “Ob la di, ob la da?”
Things seemed so easy back then
Gas was only about 50 cents
And we wanted the Red Sox to win
We learned about the birds and the bees
In the 60’s and 70’s
I gave you my hand just to squeeze
And my jacket so you wouldn’t freeze
We could do whatever we pleased
Just as long as we dodged the police
Listened to sweet melodies
In the 60s and 70s
In the 60s and 70s
Now the kids are all out on their own
And this house doesn’t feel quite like home
But I still love you down in my bones
After all these years
You still bring me to tears
Will you lay down beside me tonight?
Tell me everything will be all right
It’s dark but I still see a light
You were at your most lovely
In your 60s and 70s
